If you’ve been told by your dentist that you need a tooth filling, don’t worry. Tooth-colored composite resin fillings are a much better option than traditional silver fillings. Composite resin is tooth-colored, so it will match the natural color of your teeth and it won’t be noticeable when you smile or laugh. In addition, composite resin fillings are more durable than silver fillings and they don’t corrode over time.

What exactly is composite resin?

Composite resin is a material that mimics the natural look and feel of a tooth. Composite resin can correct discoloration, restore decayed teeth, mend chipped teeth, close gaps between teeth, and improve the appearance of your smile by filling in spaces.

Less Drilling

If you are familiar with amalgam fillings, you know that in order to place the filling a significant portion of your natural tooth has to be removed along with the decayed sections of the tooth. This can have a detrimental influence on the tooth’s integrity. Composite fillings, on the other hand, require significantly less tooth to be removed and, once the filling has bonded to the natural tooth, it results in a more robust overall tooth.

Quick Hardening

After the filling is inserted, a specific kind of light is placed in your mouth and positioned over it. This aids in the speed with which the bonding agent hardens. In most cases, the filling is fully cured and hardened in less than a minute. Which means less time spent at your dental appointment and more time getting on with your life.

Composite fillings reduce tooth sensitivity.

Composite resins have fewer instances of tooth sensitivity when compared to other fillings. This is due to the resin’s ability to insulate teeth from the hot and cold temperatures of our meals and beverages. However, you should know that after the procedure, there may be some mild but short-term tooth sensitivity.

Aesthetically Pleasing

Teeth filled with either silver or metal might make people hesitant to show their discolored fillings. Dental fillings composed of teeth help your dental health and preserve the natural beauty of your smile. Having a filling that matches your teeth allows you to smile with confidence.
